About Bruce King

After graduating from the University of Colorado in Architectural Engineering, Bruce King worked on houses, hospitals, high-rise structures, airplanes and Polynesian resorts before obtaining his license in 1983 and starting his own engineering consultancy. Since 1989 that business has been based in Sausalito, California, from which he also directs the non-profit Ecological Building Network (www.ecobuildnetwork.org) which he founded in 1999.

He is the author of many professional articles about alternative building methods, and three books: Buildings of Earth and Straw / Structural Design for Rammed Earth and Straw Bale Architecture, Making Better Concrete / Guidelines to Using Fly Ash for Higher Quality, Eco-Friendly Structures and Design of Straw Bale Buildings / The State of the Art.

Along with his wife, Sarah, he is the founder, senior editor and owner of the Green Building Press. He is very fortunate to live with, support, and be supported by his wife, son, daughter, and poodle in a lovely little valley draining to the San Francisco Bay.
